Description
This workshop will focus on situational and personal awareness for self-defense through the principles of Systema.
Curriculum:
Introduction to Systema Principles
Physical and Psychological Conditioning
Situational Awareness
Scenarios: Escape from grabs, locks, chokes, strikes etc.
Unfortunately majority of us confuse self-defense with martial arts, which leads us to thinking that because of our age and non-athletic bodies we can not study self-defense. As Systema Instructor Bratzo Barrena states in his article “To be a professional fighter one must be in the best physical state, but for a regular person, who wants to be able to defend themselves and their loved ones, that’s not necessary”.
Not everyone can be a professional martial artist, but everyone can learn self-defense.
Who should take this class:
Appropriate for all levels and backgrounds. The curriculum is designed for the beginner and non-martial artist.
Description of Systema
Systema builds its foundation on the principles of the physiological systems of the human body. The four major principles of study are Breathing, Relaxation, Structure, and Movement. Instead of teaching various techniques for various situations, Systema focuses on methods that develop movements that are explosive, effortless, spontaneous and unpredictable all while remaining free of excessive tension or emotion- the hallmarks of a true professional. The result is highly efficient, practical martial application that is both unpredictable and explosive. There are no competitions, no belts, no forms to memorize, or traditions to follow. Instead we focus on examining ourselves, the extent of our limitations, and to see how proud and weak we really are. Systema is also known by another name "poznai sebia" or "Know Yourself".
