SYSTEMA: Slip, Strike, Control

Last workshop of the year!

We will work on developing tools for slipping past various attacks from strikers and grapplers and simultaneously striking and controlling in one fluid motion.

Systema builds its foundation on the principles of the physiological systems of the human body. The four major principles of study are Breathing, Relaxation, Structure, and Movement. Instead of teaching various techniques for various situations, Systema focuses on methods that develop movements that are explosive, effortless, spontaneous and unpredictable all while remaining free of excessive tension or emotion- the hallmarks of a true professional. The result is highly efficient, practical martial application that is both unpredictable and explosive. There are no competitions, no belts, no forms to memorize, or traditions to follow. Instead we focus on examining ourselves, the extent of our limitations, and to see how proud and weak we really are. Systema is also known by another name "poznai sebia" or "Know Yourself."

Benefits:
Practical Self-Defense
Optimize health and healing
Increased Strength and Range of Motion
Stress Management
Improved Movement

What to bring:

Dress in comfortable pants for exercise, t-shirt or long sleeves, light shoes.

SYSTEMA: Closing the Distance

SYSTEMA: Closing the Distance

So you have lots of great martial arts tools that work great against a committed attacker. However you end up with someone who knows how to keep you at a distance where your tools cannot be utilized- or worse they have a weapon (knife, stick, gun) and know how to make you move out of the way they want you to so they keep the advantage and can take you out.

This workshop will work on closing the distance and the different dynamics that come up in sparring and weapons defense. We will look at it from both sides- controlling the person by keeping them at a distance, and how to move in on someone who is good at keeping you on your heels.

Subjects:
Defense against distance attacks (Strikes, Stick, Knife, Gun)
Keeping someone at a distance, controlling movement
Closing the distance in sparring & self-defense

SYSTEMA: Intro to Self-Defense w/Funda Gul

Description

This workshop will focus on situational and personal awareness for self-defense through the principles of Systema.

Curriculum:

  1. Introduction to Systema Principles

  2. Physical and Psychological Conditioning

  3. Situational Awareness

  4. Scenarios: Escape from grabs, locks, chokes, strikes etc.

Unfortunately majority of us confuse self-defense with martial arts, which leads us to thinking that because of our age and non-athletic bodies we can not study self-defense. As Systema Instructor Bratzo Barrena states in his article “To be a professional fighter one must be in the best physical state, but for a regular person, who wants to be able to defend themselves and their loved ones, that’s not necessary”.

Not everyone can be a professional martial artist, but everyone can learn self-defense.

Who should take this class:
Appropriate for all levels and backgrounds. The curriculum is designed for the beginner and non-martial artist.

Systema practice is known for its emphasis on developing a relaxed mind and body which is sensitive to changes in the environment.

Inspired by the recent seminar by Vladimir Vasiliev "Signs of Danger", we will examine how the body responds to physical pressure as well as the intention of those around us. We will look at how to recognize potential threats and examine how our body interprets danger and attacks, so we may act sooner rather than after it is too late.

The best self-defense is prevention and awareness. Most martial arts practices only focus on what happens once the fight starts. This workshop will focus on everything leading up to the first attack as well as how we respond once danger arrives.
